Meet the Team: Roxanne Thomas & Karl Armstrong
May 15, 2020
We recently connected with our board members to ask them about why they joined our board and support the work our organization is doing. Their responses are SO great! Below, we are spotlighting two of our board members – Roxanne Thomas and Karl Armstrong. We hope you will join them in supporting The Insight Alliance by contributing or becoming a monthly giver. Roxanne Thomas
1. What first excited you about being part of our organization?
I was first excited about sharing with the youth they already possessed tools inside of themselves to help them with their experience while incarcerated.
2. What has sustained your interest in the organization?
Seeing how people see the change in themselves as they grasp the understanding we teach.
3. Is there anything new you have seen about yourself by learning the understanding we teach in prison?
I let things pass more quickly – I do not hold on to old stale thoughts from the past.
4. Why do you think our organization is important in the world?
While I would like to see more prison reform, this work shows us all that no matter what, our well-being is always intact.
Karl Armstrong
1. What first excited you about being part of our organization?
I am into helping people and getting them to see that if they get out of their own way, they will see more than only what’s in their heads.
2. What has sustained your interest in the organization?
Knowing that I am not perfect - it is an eye opener and keeps me on my toes. It is mental food that I need in my life to keep me moving forward.
3. Is there anything new you have seen about yourself by learning the understanding we teach in prison?
Yes, I see that everyone is not out to get me. I see that no one can control me. I make decisions for myself and I can see clearly now.
4. Why do you think our organization is important in the world?
Because if everyone in the world had this understanding, the world would be a better place in my eyes.
5. What's most surprised you in being part of the board / organization?
How people want to help, and people are willing to give up their time to help get the word out about the program.
