Peer Mentorship
Peer mentors support mentees' overall wellbeing, offering guidance in times of crisis, and helping them navigate key resources and services.
About the Program
Our peer mentors offer support to their mentees as they navigate life after being released from prison, typically alongside a Case Manager. Peer mentors provide educational, career, and recreational supports and opportunities to their mentees. We create pairs who have shared similar life experiences, enabling mentors to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges their mentees are encountering.
The Insight Alliance takes a person-centered, anti-racist, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to mentorship. This individualized approach empowers the mentee to find the strengths within themselves to create solutions to their current problems.
Mentee-mentor meetings may take place in person or virtually. These meetings take place at least once a month, and the frequency is determined by both the mentor and mentee. Mentees and mentors will also have opportunities for more informal check-ins, through phone calls, texts, emails, etc.
Become a Mentor
We welcome mentors who have had lived experience with the prison system and have participated in our Insight to Wellbeing program. Most of all, The Insight Alliance seeks individuals who are genuinely interested in intentionally supporting individuals as they reenter their communities from prison. All peer mentors are paid a monthly stipend.
Become a Mentee
Our mentees are individuals who have recently been released from prison and have gone through our 10-week Insight to Wellbeing program. All referrals for this program come from our Insight to Wellbeing teaching team.
